Func That! A Dive Into Functional Programming by Jordan Gilmore
**************************************
Functional Programming, what is it? FP is a declarative programming paradigm where programs are constructed by a modular use of functions. A Programming Paradigm, what is it? A programming paradigm - not abbreviating that for obvious reasons – is the way you style/write your code. The structures, grammar, and features on how your program is written. Think “object-oriented”.
Technical definitions aside, I think FP has a lot of utility for us as developers. From making unit testing easier to giving a common style to your code base, Functional Programming has ways to make us all more considerate developers. Whether you use it once or for the rest of your life, FP will surely deepen your capacity as a developer.
Although the principles of FP can be applied any language, it’s particularly suited for languages with first class functions. We’ll be using JavaScript during the talk. GO and F# (hey is that what the F stands for?) are also good candidates for FP.

Demystifying Personalization by Maranda Provance
**************************************
Over the past five years, we've seen an increased demand for personalization in marketing, with stats such as "71% of consumers expect companies to deliver personalized interactions" (McKinsey and Company). Stats like these leave many businesses feeling as if they’re lagging behind if they don’t include personalization on their website. Many clients come to us looking for a piece of this “magic” marketing approach, but they often lack a clear vision of how to implement it (or even why they really want it).
In this talk, I will demystify the concept of "personalization" for those who might view it as just another buzzword. I will provide guidance on how to determine if personalization is the right fit and share tips on how to customize web experiences for the end user effectively. We will also discuss when personalization may not be the best approach, incorporating relevant user research findings. Finally, I will showcase a few real-world examples of simple, yet impactful personalization and customization techniques implemented in Craft CMS.
